Saints 4 Holme Lacy 3.

The Saints scored two goals in the last five minutes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The home side were on top from the off but found a physical Lacy side hard to break down, Josh Wisniewski went close after 12 minutes, Jake Atkinson whipped in a cross from the right, the striker rose above his marker but his header hit the bar. Ben Bevan went close with a shot from the left which the visiting keeper tipped around the post for a corner. The best chance for the home side came in the 30th minute, Kevin Jones turned his maker in the box and cut a ball back across goal, Wisniewski tried to side foot the ball into the net but it went inches wide.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play in the 35th minute when a low drive from the edge of box beat the diving Josh Davies. The Saints continued to see a lot of the ball but never really tested the Lacy keeper in the final 10 minutes of the half. ht 0-1.

The second half continued in the same vein with the Saints probing in the heavy conditions and the visitors putting in some tough tackles to keep the home side out.

A poor clearance on 55 minutes saw the same player hit another long range effort to make it 0-2 to the visitors.

It was 1-2 in the 62nd minute after Bevan crossed from the left to Wisniewski who in turn cut the ball back for strike partner Jones, the number 9 hit a curling 20 yard effort which flew into the net.  The Saints were now piling on lots of pressure with Tom Weaver and Stu Davies taking control of the middle of the park, a Bevan corner in the 68th minute was headed into his own net by a Lacy defender to make it 2-2.

At this stage it looked the Saints would go on and win comfortable but once again a free kick from the right wasn’t dealt with and a visiting player ghosted in and hit a first time effort past the stranded Davies. 2-3.

With five minutes remaining on the clock the Saints were awarded a free kick out wide on the left, Bevan hit a deep cross which was met by Weaver with a thumping header which gave the visiting keeper no chance for 3-3.

The Saints attacking the Holme Lacy goal.

With just a minute left on the clock, Graeme Keeble hit a forty yard cross field pass to Colan Badham, Badham played in Wisniewski, the striker cut the ball back to Jones who unleashed an unstoppable shot from 25 yards to win the game for the Saints. ft 4-3.

Yet another game which we were by the far the better side but nearly threw it away. It was good to see Joey back on the score sheet after a barren few weeks but what a couple of beauts they were. I thought Stu Davies played very well today but my man of the match goes to Tom Weaver who was everywhere and capped it off with a great headed goal.

Next up Hereford Lads Club away.
