Westfields 2 Saints 0.

The Saints went down 2-0 to an impressive Westfields team today.

Westfields were on top from the off with Jamie Cuss and Anthony Robbins taking control of the centre of the park, only some outstanding defending from Captain Chris Preece and Sam Bradley kept the score 0-0 at half time, in fact the Saints could of gone in 0-1 up after a Tom Weaver corner found Josh Wisniewski some eight yards out the strikers volley going inches wide on the stroke of half time, the Saints only other chance came when Ben Bevan whipped in a ball from the left which saw Wisniewski rise above his marker and head just wide with the home keeper stranded. Westfields would have been disappointed not to go in at the break a couple of goals up with the amount of possession they had.

With the wind in their favour in the second half the home side were again on top, however the first chance came to the Saints when Bevan sprinted clear on the left just as he pulled the trigger in the box a covering defnder managed to get a block in which resulted in the ball going out for a corner. This was as good as it got for the visitors as Westfields piled on the pressure, the Saints held out until the 70th minute, a corner from the left was met by the unmarked number 10 who made no mistake from 6 yards out. Five minutes later it was 2-0 when a long punt into the box deceived everyone and flew straight into the back of the net. More solid defending was needed in the last fifteen and to be fair to the lads nobody dropped their heads. Ft 2-0

The first game for a couple of months and they don’t come any harder than the league leaders away, I thought Sam Bradley and Stu Davies stood out today but my man of the match goes Captain Chris Preece.
