Saints 5-0 Llandrindod Wells Reserves

Hay, spearheaded by Andrew Harris, began their Mid Wales South campaign with a 5-0 victory over Llandrindod’s Reserve side. The Saints had to be patient, with all five goals coming in the second half though Sam Bradley, John Sly, Tom Weaver (2), and Stuart Snedden.

Hay had a number of half-chances in the first-half, with Chris Preece heading over from a corner, and Stuart Davies’s strike well held by the ‘keeper. Josh Davies crashed a shot into the side netting, before Brendan Hackett wasted the best opportunity of the first 45, beating the offside trap to race on to a long-ball but his lob just cleared the crossbar.

Luckily, Hay came out of the blocks quickly for the second period, with a precise long-pass from Preece finding the well timed run of Bradley, who struck a low shot past the ‘keeper. Second-half sub Sly wasted no time by getting on the scoresheet immediaetly, showing great determination to keep hold of the ball before chipping past the ‘keeper. Weaver then got in the act, racing in from the right to send a low shot into the back of the net. Another sub, Snedden, also added his name to the growing list of goalscorers, after good work down the right from Sly, Snedden emphatically blasted in from close-range. In the final moments, Weaver topped an encouraging night for the Saints by poking home from inside the box, to finish proceedings with a 5-0 scoreline.

A decent start to the season for Hay, although they had to bide their time before netting the opener. With little preperation behind them, it’ll take a couple of weeks for players to hit full fitness, but the signs are encouraging. Next up is the visit of Prestiegne Reserves on Saturday.

Hay: Ward, Bradley, Preece, Johnson, J. Davies, D. Jones, S. Davies, S. Jones, Weaver, Hackett, Goodwin.

Subs: Williams, Snedden, Sly.
