Saints Through in Cup.

The Saints won 2-0 today against visiting Aberdyfi on a heavy pitch with goals from Phil Davies and Will Goodwin.

Caretaker manager Fil Wisniewski was pleased with the win in such difficult playing conditions, he reported the following.

“We took the lead in the 4th minute after Steve Goodwin put Phil Davies through, Davies finished from 12 yards out. A very heavy pitch saw the two sides battling hard as each were committed, the referee had a good game and managed the conditions well.”

Manager for the day Chairman Fil Wiz.

“I swapped Will Ratcliffe to the wing and put Brendan Hackett in the centre after 20 minutes, at half time I had to take Ratcliffe off as he was strugling due to a recent illness and brought on Rob Snedden, this brought anothe tactical change with P.Davies going to the left wing and the returning Snedden playing in the hole behind the strikers”.

“We played well in the second half, Steve Goodwin hit the bar with a 35 yard free kick, Goodwin found himself one on one with the keeper on 3 occassions but each time the keeper saved”.

” It was one of those games where they were not offering much as an attacking threat but we were always weary of the possibility of a counter attacking goal”.

“Will Goodwin came on for Stu Snedden who had played well but pulled up with a strained thigh and it was Goodwin junior who made the game safe after a square ball from his older brother Steve, Goodwin making no mistake from just a couple of yards out”.

“I thought Brendan had a great game and a few others played very well but my man of the match was my captain for the day Stu Davies who anchored the midfield brilliant in awful playing conditions”.
