Hay St Mary’s bowed out of the Central Wales Cup 5-0 at Guilsfield.

This is the report from Guilsfield’s website.

Guilsfield eased through to the 5th round of the Central Wales Cup with a 5-0 victory over visitors Hay. Two goals in the first 10 minutes from Jonathan Jones and Martyn Ziemann gave the home side the perfect start. Will Thomas increased his season’s goal tally with two further strikes on 27 and 32 minutes. Nathan Leonard was shown a red card for violent conduct before the interval and left the Guils with ten men for the remainder of the match.
Hay had a good deal of possession throughout the game but the home side were always an attacking threat while Dave Littleford in the Guilsfield goal had very little action to deal with. Chris Cathrall converted a penalty with 15 minutes left to seal a comfortable win against plucky opponents.

What I would add is some poor defending earlier on cost us the tie, they let us have the ball and play but closed us down once we got into the last third of the pitch, they showed their quality in front of goal, when they had a chance they took it, that’s why they are a Cymru Alliance side.

I thought Brendan Hackett was the best player on the park along with their number 7.

The facilities at Guilsfield were excellent.

I’d like to thank Guilsfield Fc for their hospitality before, during and after the game and wish them good luck in the next round.

Next up Llanfair Utd at home.
