JUNIORS.

The Saints under 16’s fought back from being 1-0 down at half time against Builth Wells FC to win 2-1.

Builth took an early lead with just two minutes on the clock, this woke the young Hay side up and they spent most of the first half camped in the visitors half but they couldn’t break the defence down. Ht 0-1.

The second half was much the same from the off, a Kiegan Powell through ball found the speedy Kyle Harding who looked like he had nowhere to go, Harding though had other ideas and dropped his shoulder before curling a shot into the far corner to make it 1-1.

The older Builth boys tried to get back in the game but came up against a resolute Saints back four, Saints new signing Ty Garrarad won the ball in the middle of the park, he then beat two men and lobbed the keeper from outside the area for what turned out to be the winner. Ft 2-1

This was a great result for The Saints as most of the Builth side were a year older.

Man of the match Kyle Harding.

To complete a good day for the club the u14’s came back from being 2-3 down against Rhayader Town FC at half time to win 9-4 after an outstanding second half performance.

Manager Steve Huddlestone read his side the riot act during the interval after giving away 3 silly goals.

George Keylock had given The Saints an early lead with a neat finish at the near post, more Saints pressure followed, strikers Joe Winfield and Matty Tong both should have done better when in good positions but blasted their efforts wide.

To everyones surprise the visitors scored 3 goals in 8 minutes, all carbon copy, the Hay defence getting caught flat footed by the fast Rhayader striker who beat the offside trap each time and finished with ease, in fact it could of been more bar some good goalkeeping from Jack Swailes.

With half time approaching Tom Ritchie hit a 20 yard shot which flew into the top corner to make it 2-3 at the break.

Rhayader kicked off and nearly scored as their striker just ran through but Swailes saved to keep his side in it, from this point on it was all Hay.

Tong put in Winfield who scored to make it 3-3, Keylock then put the homeside back ahead after a brilliant run from centre half Gethin Williams, Ritchie soon made it 5-3 after a Walkden threaded a ball through.

Striker Winfield got on the end of a Tong pass to make it 6-3, a rare Rhayader attack saw the visitors pull the score back to 6-4 with 20 to go.

Tong netted the 7th with a cheeky back heel from a Ritchie corner, the striker was then tripped in the area the referee pointed straight to the spot, up stepped Keylock looking to claim a hat trick, the keeepr made a good save but Keylock was the first to react and smashed the rebound in to make it 8-4.

In the last couple of minutes Max Williams broke from the half way line and rounded the keeper to net from 6 yards out.

Ft 9-4

Steve Huddlestone was happy with the response he got from his young chargers, he said “The defence were much more switched on in the second half ,Griff Thomas had a great second half as did James Herdman, the midfield passed it around well and the front two were more physical and linked up well”.

Steve selected Gethin Williams as his man of the match.
