Action shot from yesterday.

The league leaders started the better and put The Saints on the back foot in the first ten minutes, striker Sam Williams made some clever runs trying to get in behind the back four but he was marked well by Saints captain Stu Davies and Sam Bradley, Williams did manage one effort in that spell after some good link up play with his fellow strike partner, his shot going wide from the edge of the box.

The visitors struggled to get into the game but did have two good efforts on the counter attack, first Macnamara went close after Goodwin played a well weighted through ball then Jack Biggs was unlucky with his effort, Goodwin also went close with a long range volley.

Knighton took the lead after a sloppy ball was intercepted, Elliot Jones(I think?) drilled in a shot from the edge of the box for 1-0.

Knighton seemed content on sitting back on their lead as the visitors came more into the game forcing a couple of corners but they were dealt with ease. Ht 0-0

The second half started as the first finished with The Saints forcing a couple of corners, Phil Davies had a good chance at the back post but his effort went wide.

On the hour mark it could have been 2-0 but Jones missed an open goal after a Williams cut back.

The game seemed to go into a lull with neither side doing a lot, Weaver made a couple of changes in the last quarter, Phil Davies joined Preece in the middle of the park which meant Brendan Hackett could push on, the last 15 minutes saw the visitors dominate the game.

In the 80th minute Hackett beat a couple of men and cut the ball across to the oncoming P.Davies who hit his shot first time with the outside of his boot, his effort curled into the roof of the net giving the impressive Turpin no chance, 1-1.

There was a few nail biting moments at the end for the home side, Macnamara was put through one on one but Turpin made a top save to deny him, then Hackett broke from the half way line, the midfielder went around Jason Samuel and pulled the trigger but Turpin got a foot to it, the ball spun and hit the underside of the bar and was then cleared to safety.

Ft 1-1.

I haven’t had a proper chat with the management team yet although Weaver was full of praise for his man of the match Sam Bradley who was excellent throughout, even my Mrs selected him so he must have done something right!

I would of took a point at half time when 1-0 down but we had enough chances to win it in the end, it was what we all call “A game of two halves”.
