Swansea City AFC Community Trust (SCCT) has been successful in attracting funding from the Premier League Charitable Fund to run a three year project as part of The Premier League’s School Sport Programme. The Welsh Football Trust and Welsh Government are also providing financial support for the project. The SCCT is currently working in 11 schools across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. During the three years of the new project the SCCT will work with every primary school in South West Wales – Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. The offer to schools will be a free six-week structured technical syllabus delivered by B licenced coaches, to improve the physical literacy and basic movement skills of children in the age range 6 to 8. To achieve this ambitious goal the Trust have employed 5 new full time staff who will be working in partnership with local authorities, colleges and grass roots football clubs across the area.

The new members of staff are pictured – Nigel Mathias is the Regional Coordinator (centre) who will have responsibility for co-ordinating the project. Also pictured are Jackson and Joel Moody; Jonathan Truelove and Christopher Badman the four County Development Coaches, each of whom has responsibility for delivery in one of the counties. Nigel Mathias, Regional Coordinator said “The main aims of the project will be to offer support, guidance and structured football and multi skills sessions to primary aged children, with the aim of increasing participation, identifying talent and promoting stronger links with our communities. With the emphasis being on encouraging more children to be active and healthy and develop learning and social skills. This will be delivered in a safe, structured learning environment under the guidance of Swansea City Community Trust’s qualified workforce”
