First Team Win.

The Saints won 1-0 today against Abermule FC.

The winning goal came with twenty minutes to go from striker Kevin Jones , it was a goal worthy of winning any game.

A scrappy first half saw the home side dominate possession but they rarely tested the Abermule keeper. Kevin Jones did hit the post after beating the keeper to the ball and Gareth Jenkins put his first time effort just wide with the keeper well beaten. Ht 0-0

The second half was similar with the wind not helping proceedings, Jones netted the winner with twenty to go after a ball was played in to Brendan Hackett on the edge of the area, he flicked the ball back out to Jones who was 25 yards out on an angle, the striker hit a first time volley that flew into the top left hand corner to the delight of his team mates.

Abermule who had struggled to create a lot until now decided to push centre half Warren Sherwood into an advanced position, in the last fifteen minutes the visitors were well on top but found the Saints back four difficult to break down, saying that, the crossbar came to our rescue on more than one occasion. Abermule were disappointed at the end not to get a point and I for one couldn’t argue with them. Ft 1-0

The wind spoilt this as a spectacle but it was good to see our young back four deal well with the onslaught at the end from a more experienced side. Tom did well in goal again, the two full backs stuck at it when it got tough, the one experienced player in the defence Josh Davies led by example but the Gaffers man of the match goes to Adam Finn who was outstanding all game.
