Saints Lose At Machynlleth.

The Saints lost 3-2 this afternoon at Machynlleth in a closely fought match.

Striker Jack Biggs scored our two goals and had another disallowed for hand ball.

We started the brighter of the two sides and Jack Biggs was unlucky in the 10th minute when he rounded the keeper only to slip as he was about to roll the ball into the empty net, unfortunately the ball hit his hand before he found the net. Five minutes later Biggs beat the keeper with a looping header, once again as it was about to cross the line a Mach defender dived and cleared it to safety, the player had to leave the field with an injury from the clearance.

The deadlock was finally broken when Biggs volleyed in Brendan Hacketts corner in the 22nd minute. 0-1.

Machynlleth equalised five minutes later when a shot from the right came back off the bar and Mike Price tapped in the rebound. The nervous hosts came more into the game and went ahead when they were awarded a free kick around 25 yards out, winger Richie Evans hit a beaut past the diving Tom Lewis to make it 2-1.

Ht 2-1

The Saints were back in the game eight seconds into the second half, Hackett chipped the ball from kick off into the path of Phil Davies who went around the full back, he then whipped a ball across the box to the back post where Biggs stuck out his long to score the equaliser. 2-2

Richie Evans who was getting no change from marker Tom James prodded the ball home from close range to put Mach 3-2 up after a goal mouth scramble.

The rest of the game was end to end with both sides going close, Sion Jones put a header just over whilst Rob McNamara’s shot went inches wide, more chances fell at both ends but it wasn’t to be for us but was for Machynlleth who now need one point at Newbridge to get promotion.

I thought our very young side did well today, we deserved at least a draw on the chances we created, we could of been 0-3 up in the first fifteen minutes. To give Machynlleth credit there was a lot of pressure on them today, we could sense they were nervous especially early doors.

Team- Tom Lewis, Tom James, Rory Hackett(Stu Snedden), Adam Finn, Sam Bradley, Chris Preece, Brendan Hackett(c), Rob McNamara, Steve Jones(Wilf Ratcliffe), Jack Biggs, Phil Davies.
