SAINTS 1 NEWBRIDGE 2.

The Saints played their first friendly last night and were defeated 2-1 by Spa Mid Wales side Newbridge.

The Saints dominated the first 25 minutes with Newbridge struggling to get out of their own half, Steve Price in the Newbridge goal saving well from Ben Bevan and Kevin Jones early on. Newbridge came more into the game around the half hour mark and opened the scoring through Captain Luke Boundford after he was put through by Johnny Samuel. The Saints equalised just before half time after Price again made 3 tremendous point blank saves first from Bevan which came back to Jones then again it came back to Bevan and some how Price kept it out only for the ball to fall to Josh Wisniewski who was playing his first game for over 12 months, Wisniewski made no mistake from 8 yards out. HT 1-1.

The second half belonged to Newbridge although the Saints did have more scoring chances with Wisniewski and Jones going close when put through on goal. Newbridge had a lot of the ball but never created a great deal until the 85th minute when Ben Jones scored after a run into the box he blasted the ball past Bryan Kirkham in the Saints goal. FT 1-2.

I thought the lads did very well against a very strong Newbridge side who were very fit and it showed later in the game. The new boys all did well especially Sam Maygothling who was playing out of posistion on the right.
