10 Out of 10.

The Saints beat Bont FC 4-1 this afternoon to make it 10 wins out of 10 in the league.

Goalscorers were Rob McNamara(2) (that’s 10 in the last 4 games for Macca), Jack Biggs and Rob Snedden.

The Saints started the stronger of the two sides, Bont struggled with the height of Biggs and McNamara from crosses in the opening ten minutes. Bont Player manager Glyndwr Hughes put himself at the back from an attacking role and this helped the visitors with his aerial ability in snuffing out the Saints tall front men.

In the 25th minute the visitors took the lead after a free kick was headed past his own keeper by captain Stu Davies  0-1.

The game became niggly and was stop start, we struggled to get our fast passing game going, the referee had to keep blowing up for silly fouls by both sides. Just before half time  Rob Snedden who was back in the first team after a couple of seasons away sent an inch perfect through ball to McNamara who ran on and finished past the diving Bont keeper to make it 1-1 at the break.

The second half saw us well on top with possession, Matt James and Stu Davies controlled the centre of the park but to Bont’s credit we struggled to break them down. We finally took the lead from a Snedden corner where once again Biggs was on hand as he so often does in important games to head us into the lead 2-1.

Bont’s right back was shown a second yellow card for indiscipline and within seconds of him leaving the field their captain Sion Jones was adjudged to have brought down McNamara so a penalty was awarded. Up stepped Snedden who placed it in the corner of the net to put us 3-1 up with ten minutes to go.

Bont had two good chances in the last ten minutes to pull a goal back, one was a bad miss and the other was well saved by Tom Lewis in the Saints goal. In the dying minutes we had a couple of corners, from the second one McNamara spun in the box and scored his second and his teams fourth to make the final score 4-1.

I thought this was a good performance with the amount of players the Gaffer had missing and the quality of opponents. Bont are very much improved on previous seasons and they also had players out, it was 2-1 when they had a man sent off, we were on top but you never know in football. Once again Matt James played very well, the front three were lively but the man of the match chosen by today’s sponsor was Phil Davies who was outstanding all game.

Team –

Tom Lewis, Sam Bradley, Jordan Baker, Phil Davies, Stu Davies(c), Matt James, Josh Davies, Adi Lawford(Rory Hackett), Rob Snedden(Will Goodwin), Jack Biggs,  Rob McNamara. Unused sub Jake Atkinson.

Many thanks to match spnsor Paul Caldicutt.
