Reserves Still Unbeaten.

The Reserves came back from 0-1 down to win 2-1 tonight with a brace from Tom Weaver.

The game was similar to the league cup game with us dominating possession but finding it difficult to break down an enthusiastic young Northcote side.

Early on we had a couple of snap chances from corners, Steve Jones put his effort over the bar after getting on the end of a knock down and  Josh Wisniewski saw his effort brilliantly saved by the visitors 16 year old keeper.

From a free kick  Northcote took the lead in the 22nd minute, one of their strikers headed past Pugh in the Saints goal. 0-1.

We tried and tried to break them down but only had a couple of long range efforts to show for in what was another frustrating half for Andrew Harris’ men. Ht 0-1.

The second half saw more Saints pressure but once again it looked like the visitors would do a smash and grab until Tom Weaver headed in the equaliser from Jamie Howards corner with 72 minutes on the clock.

With the last throw of the dice Harris put the tall Rob Evans (who usually plays centre back) up top and it was his lay off to Weaver which saw the former hit a low drive from the edge of the box past the diving Northcote keeper and give the Saints a 2-1 lead with just 5 minutes to go.

The home side saw the game out for a well earned 3 points against an impressive Northcote team. Ft 2-1.

One of the visitors coaches said they enjoy playing against us because we play football the right way and don’t go about kicking them off the pitch (I think that was a compliment). I was very impressed with their keeper, the left back and their number 10, I hope Jenks was making notes for the future!

Having spoke with our Gaffer he chose Tom Weaver as his man of the match for his will to win on the night and the two goals he netted. H was also full of praise for the Northcote number 10.
