Saints 3 Bont FC 1.

Both teams started brightly and played some good football from the off without creating to many chances. On 15 mins the deadlock was broken when Brendan Hackett latched onto a through ball from midfield, the defence stood still and looked for offside flag but Hackett finished it neatly slotting it past the Bont keeper.

Hay then had a lot of possession and were in control. The back three of Phil Davies, Jordan Baker and Sam Bradley were solid throughout. Hay had a couple of great chances to double the lead when Rob Snedden was through on goal and saw his shot saved, the rebound fell to Rob McNamara who hit the crossbar, the ball then went to Snedden who’s shot was saved off the line by Bont defender Sion Jones with the use of his arm. The defender was shown a red card and Hay had a penalty. Snedden took the penalty having scored one against the same goalkeeper a few weeks ago. He went the same way but dragged it wide. H-T 1-0.

During the second half Hay again had large spells of possession but struggled to break down a hard working Bont defence. The lead was doubled on 65 minutes when the a poor clearance from the Bont goalkeeper went straight to Hackett who ran through and found himself in a one on one situation before squaring the ball to Jack Biggs to finish off.

It looked like the job was done for Hay but Bont had other ideas and responded 5 minutes later through the hard working Glyndwr Hughes who followed up the rebound off Josh Davies who saved from Mikey Gornell’s 25 yard free kick. Hay started to get a bit sloppy and Bont grew in confidence and pushed for an equaliser but Hays defence was solid and Davies was not tested again in the Hay goal. With Bont pressing for the equaliser, Hay were making chances on the counter attack. The game was finally sealed when Steve Goodwin’s 25 yard shot bobbled through the goalkeepers arms and rolled over the line. This was infact the last kick of the game. Hay deserved the win but Bont battled hard and made things difficult even with 10 men for over half a game. Glyndwr Hughes stood out for the visitors and Hays back three were solid.

Today’s match sponsor COURTNEY METCALFE chose Jordan Baker as his man of the match.
