NEWBRIDGE RESERVES 2 SAINTS 8.

The Saints found themselves a goal up after 2 minutes when Josh Wisniewski went round the home keeper and managed to stay on his feet to score while a Newbridge defender tried to pull him to the gound, Wisniewski opened his league account after 12 months in America. Rob Snedden made it 2 after 15 minutes hitting in the rebound after the keeper saved from Kevin Jones, Snedden got his second 10 minutes later volleying in from the edge of the box. Wisnieski got his second after another save from a Jones shot, he pounced on the rebound to put the Saints 4 up, Snedden completed his hat-trick with another shot from the edge of the box to put the Saints and the game out of reach at half-time. HT 0-5.

The Saints took their foot off the gas in the second half and it was Newbridge who scored after a mix in the Saints defence, with 15 to go a Newbridge striker scored with a cross come shot to make it 5-2 after another mistake in defence. Manager Fil Wisniewski then put on Ben Bevan who injected some pace into the game, Bevan beat two men down the left and whipped in a perfect cross for Wisniewski to shoot first time and claim his hat-trick. Jones made it 7 after he tapped in after a mistake by the keeper, Bevan then scored a goal of the season contender, the Saints were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out, as Newbridge were busy sorting their wall Bevan asked the ref if he could take it, to which the ref replied yes, Bevan then shot into the back of a defender and the ball bounced back to him and he unleashed an unstoppable volley which went up into the top left hand corner of the goal.

I thought this was a poor performance overall which sounds silly seeing as the lads scored 8 times but I thought once we were 2 up people were looking for the killer pass all the time instead of playing things simple. Bryan Kirkham hadn’t had a save to make in 150 minutes of football until 2 mistakes in defence where it would of been easier just to clear the ball to safety. On the plus side if you can play quite poor and win 8-2 then that must be a positive thing, I think someone soon is going to be on the end of double figures against us when it all clicks into place. I’m torn for my man of the match by two players today who both made their first league starts so I’ll share it between Steve Goodwin and Joe Mayglothling.

Team-B.Kirkham, R.Jones, M.Havard, P.Davies, J.Atkinson(B.Beavn), C.Preece(c)(S.Mayglothling), S.Goodwin, J.Mayglothling, R.Snedden, K.Jones, J.Wisniewski.
