Sunday Saints Win.

After a couple of weeks with no game the Sunday side sitting in 8th returned to action to take on 7th placed Barrels FC.

The weather had a huge part to play in the game with the Saints having to play into a strong wind in the first half.

Early on in the game both sides struggled to adjust to the conditions however, Barrels broke the deadlock with a quarter of the game gone. Adam Jewitt who was their most influential player scored with a strike that gave Tom Bevan no chance in the Hay goal.

Hay pressed on and stayed positive throughout using the channels well, some good play by Kevin Goodwin found strike partner Craig Forsyth in space who had a great chance to equalize. Forsyth delayed his shot and was soon surrounded by the visitors defenders and the chance was gone.

Barrels were putting pressure on the Saints defence, captain Matt Pugh led by example by tidying up things at the back and keeping Barrells at bay. The vistors did get a second goal just before half time, a 25 yard effort swerved in the air and came back off keeper Bevan, the follow up was tapped in from close range. Ht 2-0.

With the wind behind them the Saints soon clawed a goal back through top scorer Craig Forsyth. The striker scored from an acute angle into the bottom corner of the net. 1-2 .

Player/manager Gareth Ratcliffe brought on Nathan Heighway and Steve Jones to try and score more goals and tighten up the defence.

Within minutes of the change Dan Jones sent over an inch perfect cross which was met by substitute Heighway who headed the ball over the keeper to score his 9th goal of the season which made it 2-2

The game was now all one way traffic as the Saints searched for a winner and it came almost straight away when Forsyth hammered the ball home from close range to put the Saints into the lead for the first time.

Forsyth guaranteed his side the points when he netted his hat-trick goal after a goal mouth scramble, that was his 18th of the season. Ft 4-2

In the end a good hard fought win for the Saints with stand out performances from Dan Jones, Joe Emmitt and Ben Bevan but the whole team can be proud of themselves after the win.
