Yesterday Hay St Mary’s Junior section hosted the end of season South Powys Finals day which had over 500 children attending.
The day finished with the u14 and u16 league cup finals which both Saints sides were involved in. The u16’s went down 2-1 to Newbridge who also pipped them to the title, whilst the u14’s beat Brecon Town JFC on penalties to secure the double. The hero of the hour for the u14’s was Ben Warn who saved every penalty taken against him, for those who don’t know Ben he’s 6ft 2″ tall and is still eligible to play for u14’s next season.
Congratulations to Steve Huddleston and Greg Cohen on a very successful season for the u14s on winning the league and cup double.
I would also like to personally thank u16 gaffer Tiny Harding on another good season for the u16’s who came runners in the league and cup. Tiny will step down from the junior section after years of hard work as chairman and manager which he also combined with being chairman of the South Powys league. Luckily for us he has agreed to be involved with the senior section, I look forward to working with him and the talented bunch he has brought through.
