Penalty Shoot Out Win.

The Saints are through to the next round of The Welsh Cup after beating Llansantffraid Village FC 5-4 on penalties. The score was 1-1 after 90 minutes and 2-2 after 120 minutes.

Goalscorers were Ryan Davies and Rob McNamara.

With 6 players unavailable from the Squad that won at Knighton, manager Gareth Jenkins utilised his large squad, 16 year old Kiegan Powell made his first team debut. Midfielders Stu Davies and Matt James played in central defence to help cover for the missing players.

The visitors came with a game plan to stick men behind the ball and frustrate us, this worked throughout as we struggled to break them down. Llansantffraid looked to break quick with the impressive Nathan Prodger playing as a loan striker.

We could of gone ahead in the 34th minute but Rob McNamara’s effort was saved by the visitors experienced keeper, up the other end The Saints new signing Adam Jones had to tip a shot around the post just before half time.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, we had all the possession but struggled to break down the two banks of four in front of us. We finally went ahead after some magic on the left by Ryan Davies, the winger beat two or three men and shot past the diving Llansantffraid keeper. 1-0.

McNamara went close again but his effort went over the bar with the keeper stranded. With 12 minutes remaining Prodger equalised, he latched on to a ball over the top and shot low past the diving Jones to make it 1-1. Jones had to make a great save in the last minute to stop Prodgers effort which would have won the game for the visitors. (Ft 1-1)

Extra Time saw our captain Stu Davies have to leave for work, he was replaced by manager Gareth Jenkins.

The Saints went ahead again in the 5th minute of extra time, McNamara finally got his goal after turning in a Davies cross from the left wing at the second attempt. 2-1

With five minutes remaining just as we thought we were through a left footed volley from 20 yards flew past Jones into the bottom corner to make the final score 2-2 and penalties to follow.

We won 5-4 with five great penalties from the lads in this order Brendan Hackett, Rob Snedden, Sam Bradley, Jack Biggs and the winning penalty was scored by Ryan Davies.
