PENYBONT ATHLETIC 0 SAINTS 6.

The Saints picked another 3 valuable points yesterday after winning 0-6 against  Penybont Athletic.

The Saints played into a strong wind in the first half and struggled to breakdown a stubborn experienced rearguard, Kevin Jones, Josh Wisniewski and Joe Mayglothling all missing good chances early on, the homekeeper also pulled off several good saves from the shots that were on target. It took 41 minutes to get the first goal which came after Ben Bevan whipped in a ball which Wisniewski finished from close range. ht 0-1.

The second half with was just one way traffic with the wind at their backs but again The Saints found it hard to get a past the homesides defences who had dropped very deep into their own half, numerous chances were missed in particular Kevin Jones who missed the target several times and when he was on target the keeper pulled off save after save, from one resulting Ben Bevan corner in the 71st minute Captain Chris Preece headed in at the back post 0-2. 18 year old Tom Wilkes was brought on to make his debut at centre mid and played like a seasoned pro playing neat little passes to his team mates, a Wilkes pass on  77 minutes found Joe Mayglothling whose through ball went to Wisniewski who again finished well for 0-3. Wisniewski got his hat-trick 3 minutes later after pouncing on a save from a Kevin Jones shot 0-4, the goal of the game came in the 86th minute after a Russ Jones cross was puched away by the home keeper only for youngster Wilkes to volley it straight back past him from the edge of the box 0-5. The impressive Wisniewski got his 4th after a one two with Ollie Cooke and The Saints 6th of the day.  ft 0-6.

Not the best of displays but another 3 points and no injuries to report, I’d like to say well done to the Penybont old boys who defended like their life depended on it, Bonzo, Matthew and Barry plus the keeper who also did very well. For us Kev had a day he will want to forget after nothing went right for him, just one of those days! Hamers kicking was outstanding, Wilko done well when he came on but for me the man of the match goes to Wiz for his four goals and work rate throughout.
