ALFRED SPAREY CUP FINAL.

The Saints Reserves lost 6-0 to Gwernyfed in the Alfred Sparey Cup Final.

The Saints Reserves were always up against it after Gwernyfed took an early 2 goal lead with manager Gav Perry hitting a peach of a goal from 25 yards out and then Macnamara netted the second after a mistake by keeper Richard Sullivan although the conditions didn’t help him. The Saints had a good spell but never really tested Price in the Gwernyfed goal and it was Bryan Dyer of Gwernyfed who made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Garry Keeble had pulled back Scott Powell in the area leaving ref Jack Watkins no choice in awarding a penalty. ht 3-0.

The Saints had a real good spell just after half tme with 3 decent chances all going begging and again were caught out on the break, Perry playing an inch perfect throughball to Macnamara who rounded Sullivan to make it 4-0, he then completed his hat-trick after Powell put him in, the final goal went to Dyer after veteran Powell played him for his second of the day.

A decent performance from The Reserves who saw plenty of the ball, the difference being Gwernyfed were just lethal in front of goal especially ex Saint Rob Mac who deservedly won the man of the match of award.
