Hay Juniors let us use the bottom pitch otherwise the game wouldn’t have taken place after the top pitch was cut up and waterlogged from Saturday’s game.
We played with the wind in the first half and started well, Ryan Davies and Brendan Hackett were outpacing the Carno back line but the ball was running on to their keeper due to the conditions.
Carno played well on the counter attack and had a couple of half chances, they also had a goal ruled out for handball, in my opinion it was the correct decision by referee Andrew Mills.
We went ahead in 12th minute, a defence splitting pass by Brendan Hackett found Davies who shot past the visitors keeper Kris Williams. 1-0.
The lead was doubled on 20 minutes, this time Davies played in midfielder Matt James who scored from 12 yards out to put us 2-0 up.
It looked like we would go on and score more goals but to the visitors credit they broke and won a corner, from a goal mouth scramble Ioan Humphreys shot from the edge of the area to make it 2-1 at half time.
Ht 2-1
The second half saw Carno have more of the ball but they never really tested our keeper Steve Jones, the wind played a major factor in neither side being able to knock the ball around.
Jack Biggs headed over the bar from a Rob Snedden free kick out wide right and Steve Morgan also had a chance to put the game out of sight.
With five minutes left Carno were awarded a corner, a Humphreys header was cleared off the line but Ger Jones was the first to react and bundled the ball over the line for 2-2.
Just as the game looked like it was going to finish a draw we were awarded a free kick out wide right for a foul on Snedden. The winger picked himself up and whipped in the ball, defender Jake Atkinson rose the highest and headed into the top corner from 12 yards out giving the keeper no chance.
Ft 3-2.
This was a tight game and could of gone either way, when they scored late on I felt really disappointed because we had defended so well in the second half reducing to Carno to the odd half chance here and there. So, to see Atky head the winner in the last minute made my weekend, well done lads. Ten wins from the last eleven games is pretty good going!
Atkinson heads winner.
Striker Ryan Davies opens the scoring.
