The Saints beat Rhayader Town FC 4-2 tonight to win The Radnorshire Cup Final.

Gosl Scorers were Jack Biggs(2), Matt James and Rob Snedden.

The Saints opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Steve Morgan saw his shot saved but Jack Biggs swept home a cross from close range.

Rhayader Town responded 10 minutes later when the Hay St Mary’s defence failed to clear the ball properly and the ensuing shot flew just over the crossbar.

Brendan Hackett saw his attempted chip comfortably saved in the 21st minute before the holders equalised six minutes later when a Rhayader Town forward pounced on a poor back pass and rounded stand-in goalkeeper Jordan Baker before turning the ball home.

The Saints responded when Luke Evans saved a near post header from a 32nd minute corner and drew another fine save from the ensuing corner. Steve Goodwin headed a 39th minute corner wide before Brendan Hackett flashed a wild shot high and wide five minutes later. Ht 1-1

Goodwin fired narrowly wide of the Rhayader Town goal, three minutes after the break, before The Thin Red Line broke quickly five minutes later and finished a move that drew a smart close range save from Baker.

The Saints regained the lead in the 57th minute, following a fine flowing move down the right, which finished with Matt James sweeping the ball home at the far post.

Biggs fired a 25 yard effort narrowly over four minutes later before their opponents saw a cross from the right hit the bar in the 63rd minute. Baker was forced to make a good low save two minutes later before Goodwin headed a 71st minute free-kick narrowly wide.

Matt James was shown a second yellow card by Rob Evans three minutes later but Rob Snedden increased the Saints’ advantage four minutes later after weaving past a few defenders and guiding his shot past Evans.

Biggs latched on to a clinical 84th minute Snedden pass to put the icing on the cake and, despite Rhayader Town scoring a stoppage time consolation, captain Stuart Davies received the county cup from sponsor Malcolm Eaton following the final whistle.
