RHAYADER TOWN 5 SAINTS 2.

K.Jones(1), S.Goodwin(1).

A disappointing performance from Saints saw them lose 5 -2 to an impressive Rhayader on Friday evening. After luckily going in 2-2 at half time a third goal conceded minutes into the 2nd half put paid to any thoughts of a comeback.

Rhayader started the brighter side with Callum McKenzie and Tom Bethell controlling the midfield. They soon went into the lead when they won the ball deep in the Saints half and Bethell finished with ease. The Saints  struck back though with a somewhat fortunate goal as I thought there were two fouls in the build up however, Kev Jones showed  composure to run clear after Steve Goodwin played him in.

Rhayader continued to have the better of the game with the Saints struggling to put any cohesive passing moves together. Rhayader scored there second when Mark Davies showed great composure to go round Becksy in the Saints goal and fire high into the net. The Saints to be fair though although struggling to get their passing game going then scored a second from a corner. Brian Dyers header was cleared off the line and Steve Goodwin scored his second in two games forcing the ball home from close range. HT 2-2

Second half was a repeat of the first with McKenzie continuing to run the game for the home side. Christian Jones got the home sides third minutes in to the 2nd half and although the Saints did not stop trying this was not their night. Dan Jones hit the cross bar direct from a corner and on two occasions good blocking by the Rhayader defence prevented numerous shots at goal getting to their target.

Two further goals and a disallowed goal for Rhayader followed to make the final score 5-2. This game proved to be a steep learning curve for the team who unfortunately came up against a Rhayader side who, according to their midfielder Tom Bethell, had not played like that for a very long time. On a positive note the team knows that they can play alot better than this and must be looking forward  to putting things right against Newbridge on Wednesday night ko 7.30.

Team- Steve Price, Dan Jones, Steve Goodwin (Josh Davies), Wes Evans, Gavin Williams, Chris Preece, Sam Mayglothling (Stuart Davies), Brian Dyer, Will Goodwin (Liam Bannister), Josh Wisniewski, Kevin Jones. Unused subs Tom Weaver, Garry Keeble.
