The Saints fought back to win 2-1 after going a goal behind in the first half.

Wooferton were on top from the off and could of been 3 up in the first 20 minutes but for some woeful finishing from their pacey number 10, they finally got the opening goal in the 25th minute when their other striker got on to a throughball and finished well giving keeper Dan Bufton no chance.

The Saints took just 3 minutes to equalise when a lovely inside pass from Gareth Pugh found striker Gareth Jenkins who hit a first time looping shot over the visiting keeper to make it 1-1.

The Saints rode their luck for the rest of the half with Bufton being called upon several times to make good saves, the whole of the defence and midfield were having to work overtime to keep Wooferton out.  ht 1-1.

I don’t know what was said at half time but whatever it was worked as the second half was the homeside in the ascendancy.

The Saints came out for the start of the half in determined fashion, it was Pugh who had the first chance hitting the post from 20 yards with the keeper well beaten, Pugh again had another long range dipping shot tipped over the bar.

The Saints finally got their noses infront after some good link up play down the left by Bounds and Garry Keeble with Keeble hitting a beauty of a shot from the edge of the box that flew up into the top corner of the goal for an early goal of the season contender.

Gareth Jenkins and Mike Havard came very close to adding to the total but both shot wide, Havard was extremely unlucky after beating several players but his shot went inches past the post.

The defence of Ceri Ward, Zac Snape, Matty Pugh and Chris Bounds had the two quick strikers from Wooferton well marshalled in the second period restricting them to a couple of long range efforts.

Final score 2-1.

This was a game of two halves where we could of been 1-5 down at half-time and at the end of the second half we could of won by 5-1. Mike Havard was his usual hard working consistant self, Jenko caused them lots of problems especially in the second half but for me the man of the match goes to Gareth Pugh who looks like he’s come and leaps and bounds after a few years away from the game.

Team- Dan Bufton, Chris Bounds, Ceri Ward, Zac Snape, Nick Rodell Jones ( Matt Pugh), Graeme Keeble, Mike Havard(c), Garry Keeble, Gareth Pugh, John Sly, Gareth Jenkins.
