The Saints lost 2-1 this afternoon at last seasons runners up Knighton Town FC.

I will try and get some more info but I’ve been told Danny Ive’s scored a header at the back post to put Knighton 1-0 up.

Just before half time a Rob Snedden free kick found its way to Steve Morgan who scored from close range.

Ht 1-1

Player Manager Adam Worton pinged in a free  kick from 30 yards out which deceived everyone and flew into the net. This turned out to be the winning goal.

Ft 2-1

I will try and get the thoughts of the manager on the game after the new year.

A neutrals thoughts on the game –

This border derby took a while to get going, with Knighton Town player/manager Worton seeing his fourth minute free-kick fly over Tom Bevan’s goal, before Adi Lawford headed over from a cross on the right for the visitors some 13 minutes later. The hosts broke quickly from their own half on the half-hour mark, with Connor Bird seeing his shot deflected behind for a corner, with Bevan forced to save a header from the ensuing set-piece. The Radnor Robins broke the deadlock eight minutes later when former Rhosgoch Rangers Danny Ives headed powerfully home from a free-kick out on the left. Despite going behind, the Saints responded well by drawing level six minutes later, as Stuart Turpin was unable to hold on to Rob Snedden’s free-kick and Steve Morgan was on hand first to squeeze the loose ball in between the post and the despairing dive of the host’s custodian.

Knighton Town were on the front foot at the beginning of the second-half as Bird twice struck the woodwork in a matter of seconds, during the 47th minute, before home captain Adam Farmer headed over from a cross on the right. Sam Williams fired straight at Bevan after latching on to the ball six minutes later before the Saints’ custodian made an excellent full-stretch save to keep out a 20 yard effort after a corner was only partially cleared. The Radnor Robins were back in front when Worton’s free-kick on the right-hand touchline sailed over everyone in the penalty area and found the far corner of the Saints’ goal. The visitors tried hard to force an equaliser in the closing stages but found it difficult to break down a Knighton Town defence, which was well-marshaled by Worton and Chris Roff, to bring the recent winning run to halt at the end of the calendar year.
