The First Team came away from Berriew FC with a point after a 3-3 draw against the team second in the table.

Goal scorers were Callum Maddy, Brendan Hackett and Jack Biggs.

The first team started well and took the league through a well worked move in the 11th minute resulting in a good finish by youngster Callum Maddy. 0-1

Berriew responded well and the leagues top scorer Rich Davies fired in the equaliser on 25 minutes. Just 5 minutes later we were 2-1 down, a free kick from the right was headed goal bound by Matt Mumford, it looked like it took a deflection off one of our players although all are denying it!

Ht 2-1

The second half saw Berriew get on top in the early stages but our makeshift back four defended well limiting them to half chances.

A mistake on 65 minutes let in Rob Pritchard who put the home side 3-1 up and at that point it seemed there was no way back.

To our credit the lads dug in and started to press higher up the pitch, in the 72nd minute captain Brendan Hackett was put in on goal and fired a shot from an acute angle across the keeper into the bottom right corner. 3-2

Four minutes later Adi Lawford chased a ball down in the corner and crossed into the box for Jack Biggs to head in an equaliser. 3-3.

Berriew had one more chance from a corner when Steve Goodwin’s clearance flew inches over the bar.

Ft 3-3.

Reserves

The Reserve Team are through to the league cup final after a close fought 1-2 win at Brecon Northcote FC .

Goal scorers were Kevin Jones and Rob McNamara.

It was always going to be a hard ordeal, following Wednesday’s defeat. To play the league leaders for a second time in four days in another cup semi final, with a potential title decider to come, made this anything but ‘another game’.

To then go to Brecon Northcote missing many key players was making the outcome seem unfavourable, thankfully Dan and Taylor joined us to take our squad to 13. Yet we started with a familiar 11, who knew after Wednesday that we had to start far better.

Thankfulky we pressed and harried, using both wingers well and controlling any of their attacks. Both goals came before the break in what was a very dominating half.

HT 2:0

We started the second half just as strong and could have put the tie to rest, even before the break. We had near misses again but it was Northcote who pulled one back, making the last 20mins a very cagey affair. Adam Finn and Chris Preece were dominant at the back, whilst James Eckley and Harry Gilb at full backs kept any attack at bay. Yet again it was a whole team effort which eventually saw us reach the finish line and another Cup Final beckons.

Managers Man of the Match: Chris Preece

‘The Ressies’ will play Rhayader Town Reserves in the final after they won 1-2 after extra time against Talgarth Town FC.
