Both Sides Win

SAINTS 3-1 BOW STREET

The first half was quite laboured by both sides playing in hot and humid conditions. The Saints had a lot of possession but were struggling to craft out any clear cut chances and Bow Street were happy to contain the pressure and attack on the counter. The second half was a better spectacle with both sides attacking more as the temperature slowly dropped. The away side took the lead on around the hour mark after a shot across goal was well saved by Jordan Baker but the rebound was finished well by the oncoming attacker. The goal woke Hay up who changed to a more attacking formation. Rob Snedden had a few chances well saved by the Street keeper. The equaliser come in the 82nd minute when Jack Biggs controlled the ball brilliantly with his chest in the box, turned and shot first time, the keeper saved well with his foot but Callum Maddy tucked away the rebound. Three minutes later it was 2-1 to the home side. This time Maddy turned provider when he found Ryan Davies with a 20 yards pass who turned the defender and chipped the ball over the out coming keeper. Hay were putting a lot of pressure on the visitors in the last 10 minutes of the game and wrapped up victory with a third goal on 88 minutes. Maddy again provider to Rob Snedden who ran onto the through ball and lobbed the keeper. FT 3-1.

Newcastle 0 Saints Reserves 1

The Reserves won 0-1 away at Newcastle Upon Clun FC to go top of the league for the first time this season.

The sun played its part in our game as well. It had dried up an already bumpy pitch and hardly helped in what is always a tough place to play. Newcastle were strengthened by the return of some key players, whilst again we were missing a few players.

We needed a win to take us top but maybe we struggled with the pressure and after last week’s excellent cup result against Northcote, were we a little complacent?

The first half was rather uneventful with only a handful of chances for either side. Newcastle hoped to gain from the slight hill advantage but we held our ground.

HT 0-0

The second half was a little more eventful. The breakthrough coming via a good breakaway and excellent cross by Kyle Harding to Josh Wisniewski who lashed home the winner. Not that the win was guaranteed, it took a brilliant header from Tom Weave to deny a free kick and a good stop from goalkeeper Tom Bevan. Thankfully, we stayed strong to the end and gained the all important three points. The game also saw a debut for Taylor Maddy, who we will see a lot more of. We have a cup game Thursday before heading back to the league on Saturday.

Full Time: 0-1
