Mixed Fortunes at Llanandras Park.

The reserve team won 1-0 in ‘The Alfred Sparey Cup’ final against host side Presteigne St Andrew’s FC.

An early goal from striker Josh Wisniewski was enough to retain the trophy.

Reserves

The reserves started well considering it was game number 3 in 4 days. Richard Meredith was full of running in the middle of the park alongside veteran Kevin Jones who was playing several good through balls to the forward players.

In the 12th minute a cross from the right was headed goal bound by striker Josh Wisniewski only for the Presteigne keeper to save, however, Wisniewski reacted quickest to head the ball a second time past the keeper. 1-0

The Saints could of added to their tally, Matty Tong flicked the ball over the two centre backs and got on the end of it but his goal bound shot was saved, he also saw a left foot shot well saved after being played in by Rob McNamara.

Presteigne found it hard to get past ‘The Saints’ back four who were solid all afternoon especially Adam Finn who had an excellent game.

Ht 1-0

The second half was a quiet affair with neither side creating a lot, Tom Bevan pulled off one good save, up the other end McNamara shot over the bar and Jones saw an effort go inches wide.

Our defence was well on top stopping any Presteigne attack in their tracks.

It was good to see 16 year old Taylor Maddy come on and work very hard for the last 15 minutes when there were a lot of tired legs on the pitch.

First Team

The first team lost 0-1 to Knighton Town FC in a game of very few chances. A Mark Jones goal in the 77th minute was enough to win the trophy for Knighton.

In a game of very few chances we were unlucky not to be awarded two penalties in the first half. Jack Biggs was blatantly pulled back as he was about to shoot on goal and youngster Callum Maddy was tripped over a good yard in the area, a free kick was awarded outside the box!

The second half was similar with both teams struggling to break down each others defence, Ryan Davies was through on goal but Stu Turpin saved when he tried to lob him.

The winning goal saw Mark Jones nip in between Jordan Baker and the outstanding Matt James, Jones got a slikght touch which saw the ball beat Baker. 0-1.

We probed as did Knighton but no clear cut chances came and the game petered out seeing our opponents win the Otway Cup.
