Becksy looking on as Jenko scores to make it 3-1.

The Saints got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over current league champions Newtown Reserves with goals from Gavin Willimas, Josh Wisniewski and Gareth Jenkins.

The Saints started the brighter of the two sides but it was Newtown who created the first couple of chances with quick counter attacks only for Steve Price to foil them also some poor finishing kept the score at 0-0. Gavin Williams went close for the Saints after beating his marker down the left side but his shot went wide.

Newtown went 0-1 up in the 10th minutes after a long ball over the top was misjudged by Price and the Newtown striker nipped in for the opening goal.

Right from the kick off the Saints responded when Williams was released down the left and again he cut inside and beat his marker then hit a beaut of a shot post the diving Newtown keeper to make it 1-1 after 11minutes.

Price was called into action a couple more times after some sloppy play in the middle of park having to come off his line to block on two occassions, defender Phil Davies then ran nearly the length of the pitch before hitting a 25 yarder which came crashing back of the bar with the keeper well beaten.

The Saints made it 2-1 after Gav Williams sent in a deep corner which Gareth Jenkins hit back across the face of the goal for striker Josh Wisniewski to blast home with his left foot from around eight yards out.

The rest of the first half was non eventful with no real chances created. ht 2-1.

Newtown could have had an equaliser in the 47th minutes after good work down the left from Mcffaden his cross was hit first time by the Newtown striker but again he was foiled by another good block by Price.

Midfielder Gareth Jenkins scored the goal of the game in the 54th minute after a Steve Goodwin passed to him on the edge  of the box which Jenkins hit first time with his left boot again giving the visiting keeper no chance. 3-1.

The final half hour was just a cagey affair with very little goalmouth action to mention, Newtown saw a lot of the ball but never really troubled Price in the Saints goal after Jenkins had made it 3-1 earlier on.

The referee blew up for fulltime with the Saints 3-1 ahead which resulted in another 3 points and back to winning ways after a couple of 4-2 defeats recently.

Manager Chris Baynton changed his formation to 4 4 2 for this game and it worked as we got the 3 points, saying that it wasn’t a great game to watch but am well pleased with the win.

Chris thought his two best players were Steve Goodwin and Wes Evans and also thought Will Goodwin did well upfront in for the suspended Kevin Jones.

Team- Steve Price, Josh Davies(Stu Davies), Chris Preece(c), Wes Evans, Phil Davies, Gareth Jenkins, Sam Powell(Tom Weaver), Steve Goodwin, Gavin Willliams, Will Goodwin(John Sly), Josh Wisniewski.
