The Saints v Gwenyfed

A good crowd watched this local derby which was hard fought right to the end. The home supporters were sent home disappointed though as a Rob Mac goal 10 minutes from time sent the points down the road to Talgarth.

There was a bright start to the game with both sides getting the ball down and causing each other problems at the back.  Both Mike Havard and Rob Snedden forced good saves from keeper Carl Weale in the Gwernyfed goal. At the other end Bryan Kirkham had to be alert to stop Rob Mac on the edge of the Hay box. Half time 0-0.

Hay threatened early in the 2nd half when Snedz weaved his way through the Gwernyfed defence only to be denied by a smart save from Weale. Gwernyfed were mainly relying on  the break but they looked dangerous running into the channels. Weale again came to the away sides rescue when he made another good save from Havo. After more Hay pressure Gwernyfed broke with Macca getting on to the ball and smashing home a great finish from 20 yards to spark wild celebrations from the away team and supporters.

Hay pushed forward for the equaliser but found the away defence in determined mood not to concede. On times they were throwing bodies in front of the ball to block attempts at goal. Havo did get the ball in the net right at the end but the ref disallowed it for an eartlier push.
