Penparcau 3 Saints 2.

Penparcau moved back to the top of the table after once again beating The Saints by the odd goal. With both sides missing several players on the day it could of been so different if the visitors had taken all their chances.

The Saints played into the wind in the first half and nearly went ahead in the 3rd minute after striker Kevin Jones played in Josh Wisniewski whose shot beat the keeper but was cleared off the line by a defender, in the 11th minute the same two players combined this time Wisniewski’s effort hit the post and was cleared to safety.

Penparcau’s first attack in the 16th minute saw them hit a long ball over the top but their striker pulled his chance wide, in the 25th minute they were awarded a free kick 30 yards out, a quick pass into the area saw one of their players turn and shoot first time the effort taking a wicked deflection off Saints skipper Phil Davies and ending up in the back of the net for 1-0. Just 4 minutes later it was 2-0 after some poor marking from a corner saw Steve Welsby score with a header off the back of his head.

Kevin Jones had a chance to make it 2-1 just before half time when he spun his marker and burst into the box only to see his right foot shot well saved by the home keeper. Ht 2-1.

The Saints were back in the game in the 47th minute after Tom Weavers corner found the impressive Ben Bevan at the back post the wingers header giving the home stopper no chance 2-1. It was the visitors who dominated possession for long periods of the second half but struggled to break down a stubborn Arky defence, Bevan going close again in the 73rd minute after being realesed by Jones but again his effort was kicked off the line away to safety. The sucker punch came in the 80th minute, a long ball over the top saw winger Neil Evans run through and score to make it 3-1 with ten minutes to go to Arky.

Saints midfielder Tom Weaver turned his man on the edge of the area in the 88th minute and hit a left foot effort which hit the post this time though Bevan was on hand to blast in the follow up to make it 3-2. There was a tense last few minutes with The Saints pressing, Bevan was put in on goal in the dying seconds but the home linesman put his flag up to the annoyance of the visitors, the ref finally blew his whistle to end another close encounter between the sides.

I think we deserved 3 points today but we are not having any luck at the moment, Arky had about 4 or 5 chances and to their credit scored 3 times, they certainly know how to dig deep when up against it.

I thought Josh Davies did well today but my man of the match would be Ben Bevan for his goals and all round effort.
