Saints 5 Pegasus Reserves 1.

Havo wins a penalty after this challenge.

The Saints put in a very strong second half performance and came away with all three points after defeating a useful Pegasus side by five goals to one.

The first chance of the game fell in the fourth minute to Gav Williams who saw his shot saved well by the visiting keeper, Pegasus went up the other end and saw a long range effort cannon off the bar, two minutes later young Saints goalie Jack Bradley made a top draw save by stopping a point blank effort diving down to his right. On the 15 minute  mark it was the turn of the Pegasus keeper to save this time from midfielder Mike Havard.

The first goal came after 20 minutes and what a goal it was, the Pegasus number 8 hit a 25 yard effort which flew into the top corner giving Bradley no chance of stopping it 0-1.

Kevin Jones was put through in the 26th minute but once again the keeper saved, down the other end the woodwork came to the Saints rescue again from a long range effort by a Pegasus midfielder.

The Saints drew level in the 40th minute after Graeme Keeble put Williams in down the left his first time cross was met at the near post by Josh Wisniewski whose header gave the keeper no chance 1-1.

The Saints had a couple of efforts just before half time, a save from a Wisniewski shot and  Captain Chris Preece’s long range effort went inches wide. ht 1-1.

The second half saw the Saints pin the visitors back, several efforts went wide or  were well saved by the impressive visiting keeper. The breakthrough came on the hour mark after Havard burst into the box and was up ended by the visitors centre half, the referee didn’t hesitate in pointing to the spot. Striker Jones scuffed the spot kick but it hit the post and trickled over the line for 2-1.

The goal of the game came in the 73rd minute, Wisniewski fed Hackett down the left who then skipped by his marker, the winger whipped a ball across the face of the goal which was side footed in by Gav Williams to make it 3-1. Willaims got his second goal in the 81st minute after a mazy run which saw him beat three players before blasting past the diving Pegasus keeper.

The final goal came in the 84th minute, Gareth Jenkins cut in from the right after being put in by Hackett, Jenkin’s first effort was saved but the rebound came back to him and he made no mistake with the second effort to make the final score 5-1.

The second half was the best we have played this season against a very good footballing side, the scoreline flattered us slightly, saying that their keeper made several good saves on the day. There were some very good performances out their today, Havo, Josh D, the two wingers, manager Sean Hackett was very pleased with the team performance, he thought Joey had a very good game but his man of the match on the day was Wis.
