Hay St Mary’s junior section would like to thank Howard Smith owner of Smith Builder Ltd for supplying one of the under 14 sides with a new kit for the season.

After the kit presentation the under 14’s played their first game of the new season and  beat Llandrindod 2-1.

Playing with the wind in the first half the Junior Saints opened up a 2-0 lead at half time, the first goal came after Joe Winfields shot was saved by the visiting keeper, Callum Richards was first to react, his chipped effort making it 1-0. The second was the goal of the game, keeper Craig Lane threw the ball to Tom Wilcox on the right, he passed to Troy Harkness who slipped the ball to Matty Tong, he sent Winfield away down the right, Winfield beat the fullback and whipped in a ball which was despatched by George Keylock to make it 2-0 at half time.

The second half was tough going with Llandod now having the use of the wind but some dogged defending and a man of the match performance by the Hay captian Luke Cohen saw the visitors have limited chances on goal, a late goal by the Dod did get hearts racing for the last 4 minutes but Hay held on for a good win.

Many thanks to Gareth Ratcliffe for refereeing the game which was played in good spirit.
