Sunday Saints Win Opener.

The Sunday Saints romped to an 8-0 win this morning against Broadleys FC.

The Sunday Saints Swepted past Broadleys this morning in the league opener on their return to League Football.

It took about 10 minutes for the Saints to control possession and when they did the visitors barely had a meaningful attack. The opening goal came when a Dan Jones corner was met by Phil Davies who’s header found the the roof of the net. 1-0. Jon Sly soon made it two when a handling error by the visiting goal keeper meant he had the easy task of rolling the ball into the net. 2-0. A few minutes later Sly claimed a proper strikers goal, a Jones corner found Davies and his header deflected off Sly and trickled over the line. 3-0. About five minutes before half time it was four, again a Jones corner found the head of Davies with the keeper only managing to divert the ball into the roof of the net. 4-0.

The second half started as the first ended with the home team well on top. The first goal of the 2nd half came when Zack Snape let fly with a free kick from 25 yards which found the inside netting. 5-0. Snape doubled his own tally when a he hit a fierce shot past the keeper at the near post after some good work by Wilf Ratcliffe. 6-0. It was soon seven, a burst from midfield from Lloyd Holland found Jake Atkinson at the far post whos lay off found Nathan Heighway who then hit a left footed shot into the bottom right hand corner. 7-0. The scoring was finished by Jake Atkinson who had earlier missed a handfull of chances, a cross by Heighway wasnt dealt with and Atkinson poked the ball home from a yard out. Full Time 8-0.

Good return to League Football for the Sunday Saints, but theres going to be much harder games to come over the course of the season. A few players stood out today Zack Snape played well at centre half as did Sam Bradley, but Man of the Match was named as Wilf Ratcliffe for his non stop work rate.
