ALL SQUARE AT FOREST ROAD.

The Sunday Saints conceded late on to hand Commercial a draw after twice coming from behind in a thrilling 3-3 at Forest Road.

The first half started tight but the Saints were playing the better football especially Craig Forsyth and Johnny Daw who were both looking dangerous upfront, Commercial also had a dangerous front two that kept the Saints defence on their toes. It remained tight until the 25th minute, a sloppy pass by Dan Jones was intercepted and their midfielder played a neat through ball to the giant of a striker and he cooly finished past Ward in goal. Ten minutes later the Saints hit back, Forsyth received the ball deep, turned his marker and hit a bullet from 25 yards that flew into the top right corner, a deserved leveller as the Saints played some good football at times. Half Time 1-1.

The Saints started the second half in sloppy fashion another stray pass this time from Steve Jones was cut out, a low cross was played in and the big striker hit it first time on a swivel and the ball found the inside netting, a good finish. After that goal the Saints settled and Gareth Jenkins changed the formation to a 4-4-2. This paid off within 5 minutes, Stuart Davies won the ball in midfield looked up and played a beaut of a through ball which fooled the whole Commercial back line and Johnny Daw was on hand to beat the keeper. This got the Saints going and they started to play the football that they’ve been playing all season, John Sly came on for Jenkins and was immediately involved, the ball was played into the right winger and he skipped past a couple of challenges he looked like he was going to go for goal but he played the ball across the face of goal the first effort was missed by Forsyth but Daw was on hand at the back post to bundle the ball over the line. Commercial piled men forward to try and get an equaliser and that’s exactly what they got 5 minutes from time, a ball into the box caused a bit of a scramble and a free man hit a half volley into the roof of the net. The Saints had a couple of half chances to get a winner but it wasn’t to be. Full Time 3-3.

A good game and by far the toughest game for Jenkins’ men to date, by the way the visiting team were arguing with each other and on at the referee for the entire 90+ minutes i think they were expecting to turn up and beat the Saints convincingly. It was a good battle by the home team, there were a couple of silly individual mistakes that led to goals and the Saints had more than enough chances to win the game. There was a few good performers today, Sam Bradley was excellent as was Lloyd Holland in the middle but Stu Davies was the best player on the park.
