Sunday Saints Win On Penalties.

The Saints played against Kington Town of the Hereford Premier league.

Kington had a lot of the ball in the first half but only tested Saints keeper Ian Davies with long range efforts which he dealt with at ease. It was the Saints who took the lead in the 14th minute when John Sly nipped in at the near post to head in a corner which held up in the wind. HT 1-0.

It took Kington 2 minutes of the second half to equalise when James Williams got on the end of a freekick at the back post. The rest of the second half Kington had a lot of the ball but it was the Saints who had all the chances with Wayne Evans going close only to be foiled but a brilliant save by the Kington keeper. Zac Snape and Mike Price also had good chances with headed efforts but both went wide, Dan Jones went around the keeper and was clipped but stayed on his feet when it was a definate penalty(referee said so after). The final whistle went and it was down to the lottery of penalties. The Kington keeper saved one and Hays Ian Davies two, so it was left to Mike Price to make that long walk into the box to take the last penalty which he did and he buried it up into the top right hand corner .

FT 1-1     Saints win 4-2 on pens.

Manager Gareth Ratcliffe was a very happy man after the quarter final and said ” I thought the whole team was outstanding and my man of the match was Zac Snape”.

I agree it was a great team performance but for me Captain Wayne Evans was man of the match closely followed by Graeme Keeble.
