Sunday Saints Win Again.

The Sunday Saints welcomed Rosey Athletic to Forest Road this morning. The visitors had lost 2 and won 3 of their five league games this season.

The Saints started quite sloppy, especially in possession of the ball. They did however have oportunities to take the lead. ‘Bruce’ picked the ball up 20 yards out and ran at the defence skinning two but his shot was hit straight at the keeper and the rebound was followed up by Lloyd Holland who also hit straight at the keeper from 6 yards. They regretted those missed chances soon after as the visitors took the lead, after a bit of a scramble in the box a tame shot from 12 yards went passed Ward in goal but it looked like Phil Davies was on hand to clear off the line, Davies got his footwork all wrong though and the ball eventually went in off the feet of the winger. 0-1. The Saints again failed to take their opportunities as Ben Bevan missed a free header at the back post. They did evenutally equalise as a cross from the left was met by Phil Davies, he set himself and hit a peach of a volley into the corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1-1. Minutes later the Saints should have had the lead, Gareth Jenkins was put in one on one with the keeper but he somehow hit the post from 12 yards. HT 1-1.

Jenko had a few stern words to say at half time, he was happy that they were creating chances but the overall play wasn’t up to usual standard. They did start a bit better and the play was a more fluid, Brucey upfront was a constant threat as was Phil Davies on the wing. It was the winger that put the saints ahead, a long ball from the back was raced onto by Davies and he finished well into the corner. 2-1. That goal really settled the home side and now they were really starting to knock the ball around. It was soon 3-1 and effectively game over as the away side rarely threatened, Davies getting his fourth of the morning, a shot from the edge of the area wrong footing the keeper. Soon it was four, Davies this time turning provider, a great righted footed cross landed perfectly onto the head of Brucey and the ball looped over the keeper. 4-1

It was a good game to watch and Rosey were by far one of the best teams we’ve come up against in the league this season, also a mention for the referee who was also very good. It wasnt a great performance from the Saints especially first half as our passing game was all over the place but second half was a much better . Phil Davies had a good game and showed great composure infront of goal, Bruce and Bevan were lively but everybody thought the centre half pairing of skipper Liam Pugh and Steve Jones were the best players on the park this morning. Next up for the Saints is Welsh Club who visit forest road next Sunday.
