Sunday Saints Win Semi-Final.

The Sunday Saints reached the final of The Alfred Sparey Cup tonight after a 0-4 win against Radnor Valley.

The Saints started the brighter against a young Radnor Valley side, the opening goal came after 11 minutes when Phil Davies outpaced the Radnor full back and covering defender, his first time cross was met by Ben Bevan who made no mistake from 10 yards. 0-1.

Five minutes later the same two players combined for the second goal, Bevan slipping the ball through former Saint Paul Williams legs to Davies, the midfielder ran 30 yards before shooting from the edge of the area to make 0-2. More Saints pressure followed and from a Bevan corner 17 year old Aaron Gilligan thumped in a peach of a header for 0-3.

The game was over as a contest in the 35th minute, from another corner, this time taken by midfielder Dan Jones, the ball fell to striker Nathan Heighway who smashed it in from 8 yards out. ht 0-4.

The second half saw Radnor come more into the game and in fact they were awarded a penalty on the hour mark after Wilf Ratcliffe was penalised for a trip, however, Michael Ward in the Saints goal guessed right and saved it.

Radnor probaly edged the second half  but came up against a brick wall in Jones, Atkinson and Pugh, not a lot of chances were created at either end and the referee blew for full time with the score. 0-4.

We very strong in the first half and put the game to bed with four quick goals. The manager picked three players that really stood out on the night, Jake Atkinson in defence, Phil Davies in midfield, his man of the match goes to 17 year old Aaron Gilligan, the lad has great feet and composure on the ball for his age.

The Sunday Saints will play Newcastle in final, date to be arranged.
