Hay St Marys Sunday Saints hosted Spirited Away FC at home on a sunny Sunday morning.

Hay Started the stronger side with some good interlink play from the midfield pair of Joe Emmitt and Ben Bevan and after 7min the Saints took the lead when a shot from the midfield was spilled by the visiting keeper and was pounced on my veteran striker Nathan Heighway who finished well to get his first goal of the season.

A couple of minutes later the Saints found a way through the visiting defence to make it 2-0 with a cool finish by Craig Forsyth.

We then sat back  which gave the visitors the opportunity to push forward and on the half hour mark they got their first shot on target which was spilled by Tom Bevan and the ball was bundled in to the goal .

Saints manger Gareth Ratcliffe changed the formation at this point as the visiting team where bypassing the midfield and starting to get on top. The change was rewarded when Heighway forced the keeper in to a mistake and bagged his second goal just before half time. HT 3-1

The second half started as the first finished and Hay where awarded a penalty when Forsyth was pulled down in the box. Up stepped Heighway who finished  coolly for his hat trick.

The Saints carried on pushing forward but where guilty of trying to walk the ball in to the net, however, in the 70th minute Harry Ratcliffe broke the offside trap and finished a one on one with the keeper.

Player manager Gareth Ratcliffe also got on the score sheet when he found himself 10 yards from goal following a well-placed pass from Andrew Gilbet completely unmarked he kept his nerve being that far up the pitch and slotted home pass the advancing keeper.

Full time 6-1

Manager Gareth Ratcliffe Said. “It was a good performance today everyone played well. It was nice to see Heighway get on the score sheet and from the first goal you could see his confidence rise, he could have had a couple more with the effort he put in. There was also an excellent display by Joe Emmitt in central midfield he was the lone voice spurring the boys on in our quite spell that’s why he got man of the match any other week it would have been our hat trick hero. Next week we have a tough game away to Vaga and the boys will have to be on top of their game against the former Hereford Premier side.”
