The Saints are out of the Radnorshire Cup after a 1-3 defeat to Rhosgoch Rangers FC.
In wet and cold conditions it was the visitors who started the better but never really tested Saints keeper Tom Lewis in the opening exchanges, that changed in the 15th minute when Steve Morgan crossed into the box, with no Rhosgoch player near it looked a routine catch for Lewis, unfortunately Adam Finn scored past his own keeper whilst trying to clear. Five minutes later things got silly,Joey Price crossed into the box and this time it was Josh Davies who scored past his own stopper for 0-2.
When you thought things couldn’t get any worse Rhosgoch were awarded a penalty for a trip on Morgan by Jake Atkinson, striker Price saw his penalty well saved by Tom Lewis. The killer blow came just before half time when Rhos were awarded a free kick, again Lewis saved but the ball fell to Danny Ives who tapped in from close range.
Ht 0-3.
After stern words from”Jenko” the Saints came out looking like a different side and were well on top in the second half, on the hour mark Jack Biggs prodded home from an Adi Lawford corner, the visitors did appeal for a foul on their keeper(i’ve seen less given).
Josh Davies nearly pulled another goal back but Adam Jones made a good save diving to his left and tipped it around the post. There were several other chances to score but Jones was having none of it, it wasn’t all one way traffic, Trefor Jones shot into the side netting after a good move and at the end Rhos were 4 on 1 in a break away which resulted in Joey Price also firing into the side netting with three frustrated team mates looking on for the square ball.
Ft 1-3.
A good second half by the lads but the damage was done in the first, quite a bizarre game the way it went. What was pleasing was our second half performance, we didn’t give up, we went at them and all without our talisman Brendan Hackett.
Gaffers man of the match Matt James, he also thought Jack Biggs did well especially second half playing in Brendan’s role.
