The Saints Reserves lost 0-1 to Rhayader Town Reserves this afternoon in a game of very few chances. A long range effort from Mark “Sparky”Davies in the second half was enough for the visitors to go home with all 3 points.
Rhayader saw a lot more possession in the first half but never really tested Saints stand in keeper Jordan Baker. It was the same up the other end with Bryan Kirkham hardly called upon to make a save during the opening 45 minutes. To their credit both sides defences were on top, Tom Weaver saw a first time volley hit the side netting and Tom Jones of Rhayader saw his effort go high over the bar. Ht 0-0.
Within seconds of the restart Mark Davies hit a long range effort from 30 yards which flew over Baker to give the visitors a 0-1 lead.
The same pattern continued until around 15 minutes to go when the Saints got on top. Gareth Jenkins came off the bench and sent in a couple of quality first time crosses but again they were dealt with well by the visiting defenders.
The Saints best chance of equalising came in the 86th minute after a good move down the left by Darren Horrigan who crossed to Gavin Williams at the far post, however,Kirkham did enough to put the winger off and his effort went inches wide.

We looked a bit rusty after only playing one game in the last 6 weeks, Rhayader looked sharper than us for a good hour. The last 15 saw us come into the game and peg them back, another 5 minutes and maybe we would of got a point. Over the 90 minutes Rhayader just deserved the win.
