BONT 1-2 SAINTS

Both sides started brightly with both goalkeepers making a couple of decent saves a piece. Brendan Hackett, Matt James and Jack Biggs had goal bound efforts saved from good counter attacking moves and Tom Lewis made a good save from Glyndwr Hughes and a reaction save from a goalmouth scramble.

Bont then had a lot more ball and put some pressure on the Hay defence forcing a change in formation. This helped the Saints who had two penalty shouts for handball waved away and the Bont keeper saved well from a Matt James effort.  HT 0-0

The second half started as the first ended, pretty even with both sides creating half chances. Sion Jones was solid in the Bont defence and dealt with everything thrown at him.

Bont opened the scoring on 60 mins when the impressive Nathan Warren reacted quickly to a Hay mistake, turned the Saints defence and hit the ball into the far corner from 18 yards. Not long after Bont went down to 10 men after the right back got sent off for stamping on Tom James.

Bont packed the defence and although Hay had a lot of possession, where finding it hard to break them down. Jenkins made three attacking changes and went with four up top. The three substitutes proved to be a massive factor in the final part of the game. With Hay piling on the pressure for a much needed point, they finally broke through the Bont defence on 88 mins. A good run and cross from Will Goodwin was headed back across goal by Ben Bevan to Matt James to head in from 8 yards but the Bont keeper made a superb save that come off the bar, however, Jack Biggs was on hand to tap in the rebound.

With minutes to go the Saints pushed on and went for the win but Bont where not done either. In the 90th minute Mikey Gornell had a free kick from 25 yards, which he smashed and was heading for the top corner of Lewis’ goal but the keeper somehow  managed to tip it over the bar at full stretch. A couple of minutes into injury time with the game heading for a draw Bont had a header from a corner which Ben Bevan saved on the line with his chest. Tom Weaver then broke and went on a mazy run which resulted in a Hay corner. The corner was partially cleared to Steve Goodwin who turned inside a Bont defender and smashed the ball into the top corner with his left foot from 14 yards. This goal secured our promotion after Kerry lost against Churchstoke on Monday. The three subs where superb when called on and had a hand in both of the goals.

It was a workman like performance against a very hard working Bont….Up the Saints !!!!
