CENTRAL WALES CUP VICTORY.

The Saints have progressed to the next round of the Central Wales cup after a comfortable victory over a youthful Fc Phoenix side.

It took the Saints 10 minutes to open the scoring, after constant pressure right from the kick off the first goal came from a corner which found Chris Preece who played the ball in low to an unmarked Ben Bevan, Bevan finished from close range. Another corner on the quarter hour mark found Josh Wisniewski whose shot was saved but the ball came out to Preece who made no mistake to make it 2-0, Rob Snedden (who was causing the visiting team all sorts of problems running at them) shot from 20 yards but again it was saved by the impressive Phoenix keeper, the alert Wisniewski pounced on the rebound and cut the ball back for his strike partner Johnny Daw to make it 3-0. The next goal was probably the move and goal of the game with Daw winning the ball in the middle and laying it off to winger Bevan, Bevan sent a cross to the far post for Wisniewki who sent a bullet of a header past the diving keeper in the 40th minute. ht 4-0.

The opening 10 minutes of the second half was the visitors best spell they kept the Saints attack at bay and had a fair share of the ball but never really troubled Ian Jones in the Hay goal. Joe Maygothling who was impressive on the right made the next goal for Wisniewski, the striker bending the ball into the top right hand side of the goal to make it 5-0. Substitute Kevin Jones set Wisniewski up for his hat-trick, next Rob Snedden scored a brillant individual goal after a skilful run to make it 7-0, Wisniewski then repaid the favour to strike partner Jones by setting him up for the 8th, Jones held off his marker and layed the ball off for Joe Mayglothling to claim the 9th. Snedden chased a ball down in the corner and crossed for the returning Bryan Kirkham to score the 10th and final goal and the biggest cheer of the day, Bryan making a rare outfield appearance after being out injured for a couple of months. ft 10-0

This was a very good team performance, the back four were outstanding in what they had to do and never put a foot wrong, I thought Havo and Phil Davies had excellent games as did Joe Mac but for the second week running Rob Snedden was voted man of the match for a great performance in central midfield. A special mention for the visitors goalkeeper who was classy in everything he did and was not at fault for any of the goals, anyone reading this from the Aberyswyth area who play a decent standard are wanting a keeper take a look at this lad.
