Some photos from the Newbridge game last night. I will catch up with the Gaffer today and get his thoughts on the win.
The Saints took an eighth minute lead when Brendan Hackett latched on to a through ball and saw his effort parried by the Newbridge goalkeeper but struck a visiting defender and found the back of the net. Two minutes later Ryan Davies turned the ball home following a long throw on the right flank. The hosts had to wait 15 minutes before adding to their tally following a good spell of quick, crisp passing. Jack Biggs played a one-two and then found the corner of the net from 25 yards out with a low shot. The saints went further ahead when Davies found the back of the net with six minutes remaining. Newbridge netted on the stroke of the interval when one of their players cut in from the right and found the far corner of the net. Biggs netted his second goal of the evening in the 61st minute when he latched on to a pass and fired home from the edge of the penalty area after not being challenged by the visitor’s defence. Four minutes later, Brendan Hackett cut in from the left and saw hid eventual shot find the far corner.The Saints concluded the scoring when substitute Josh Wisniewski headed home a loose ball from close range after Newbridge failed to clear properly from their penalty area.
The Gaffer thought the team played some good football tonight, it was good a workout which will help the players fitness. He was impressed with the 3 new players on show who he hopes to sign. The new lads included a keeper, a winger and a striker, he’s also hoping to get a couple more in to have a look at for the next friendly.
