SAINTS RESERVES 2 WELLINGTON COLTS 0.

The Saints Reserves picked up three points after a close match with Wellington Colts at their Forest Road ground yesterday.

The Saints found themselves up against it in the first half with the Colts having the better of the chances although they never really worked Ian Davies in the Saints goal, the tricky striker should have done better when on more than one occasion he found himself in on goal but each time he dragged his shot across the goal with Davies bearing down on him. The homeside never really got going in the first period, their best chances were created by Graeme Keeble through balls but again the away keeper was wasn’t really troubled. ht 0-1.

At half time Manager Andrew Harris and Gareth Davies must have said something right as the second half performance was much better.

Tom Wilkes was brought on and he started causing problems down the left with his tricks and flicks, Oliver Cooke had a good chance after a Wilkes throughball but his shot lacked power and the keeper saved easily. Alex Howard along with the rest of the defence were in total control in the second period with Davies only called upon once which he saved with ease diving to his left. Graeme Keeble left the field with an injury and was replaced with Sam Powell who within minutes of being on the pitch won his team a penalty after a surging run into the box he was tripped and the ref had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, Powell got up and took it himself blasting the ball to the keepers left giving him no chance 1-0. Powell then scored a 20 yard cracker of a goal again giving the keeper no chance this team beating him on his right hand side. ft 2-0.

A poor first half from the Saints followed by a very good second period, whatever H said at half time it worked because the lads upped the tempo and got a well deserved three points.

Again Alec Winstones was classy, I thought Wilko was superb when he came on but my man of the match goes to Alex Howard for a consistant performance from start to finish.

Team- I.Davies, A.Howard, A.Winstone(c), L.Pugh, C.Bounds, B.Walsh(T.Wilkes), GB.Keeble(S.Powell), S.Davies, M.Ward, J.Daw(W.Goodwin), O.Cooke
