The Saints reached the final of The Emrys Morgan Cup for the first time in their history last night with a 4-0 victory over Cambrian Tyres League side Penrhyncoch Reserves.

The Saints played at a high tempo right from the start putting Penrhyn on the back foot whose only response early on was to hit long balls out of defence which Captain Chris Preece and his defence headed straight back to the Saints strikers to put more pressure on them. A free kick after 12 minutes taken by Rob Snedden was hit deep and headed back across the goalmouth by Sam Powell which striker Josh Wisniewski was the first to get to and he put The Saints 1-0 up from close range. The Saints worked hard throughout the first period to deny Penrhyn any scoring opportunities and found themselves 2-0 up with a carbon copy goal , a Snedden free kick delivered to the back post post this time  Ben Bevan headed back across for midfielder Sam Mayglothling to score from close range. Ian Jones filling in for the injured Bryan Kirkham made a great save to deny the twinkle-toed Tony Jones, it was the only time he manged to get free from Preece in the first half. ht 2-0

Manager Fil Wisniewski told his men more of the same in the second period during his half time team talk and thats what he got.

The Saints were again winning the one on one battles, Phil Davies started exploiting the space on the left linking up with Bevan who whipped in a several crosses which Wisniewski and Jones came close on several occasions to getting on the end of, Russ Jones and Snedden worked hard on the right after T. Jones decided to drift out wide after getting no change from Havard and Preece, Penrhyn then threw on another forward with the clock running down but Powell and Mayglothling were winning all the central midfield challenges stopping the ball going to the Penrhyn strikers, The Saints made 3 replacements with Joe Mayglothling, Gavin Williams and Josh Davies replacing Bevan, Snedden and Preece and after 82 minutes the game was made safe when a corner was half cleared to Sam Powell whose shot came off the post and flew into the back of the net, a couple of minutes later Kevin Jones got the 4th with a shot on the turn which a diving Penrhyn player helped over the line to send the large Saints following home very happy and looking forward to a day out on Good Friday when the final will be played.

Without doubt the best team performance of the season to date, right from the kick off we got on top and domintaed for long periods, their front two looked lively when they had the ball but our defence worked overtime in closing them down, Jones made a great save just before half-time to make sure we went in with a 2-0 lead. The whole team should be proud of the display but need to keep it at that level with the league being the most important thing this season. Many thanks to the large support that followed us to Rhayader.
