SAINT HARMON 2 SAINTS 7.

The Saints moved back to the top of the table with a 2-7 win at St Harmon.

Hay started the game a little lazily immediately being put on the back foot by a youthful and energetic St Harmon side. It was not long before Hay woke up and started to play the ball around, Gavin Williams sliced the defence with a superb through ball for Joe Mayglothling to latch onto and calmy slot past the oncoming keeper and into the bottom corner. Hay then pressed forward and despite an extremely difficult pitch, did play some reasonable football. It was the long ball from keeper Simon Hamer that found Josh Wiz on 20 minutes who put the ball away unerringly to make it 0-2. After 30minutes Hay had a corner which Johnny Daw put perfectly onto the towering head of Stu Davies. His bullet header left the keeper with no chance. 5 minutes later Josh Wiz put Joe Mac in for his second and Hays fourth. Despite their enthusiasm and energy the home side went in 0-4 down at half time.

The second half started in the same way as the first did but this time St Harmon had some success even if it was aided and abetted by Hay’s Keeper Simon Hamer. The first saw an effort from the half way line hit the foot of the post just before the keepers head hit the same post, the rebound falling to the oncomming striker to calmly put in the empty net. Simon clearly, slightly confused continued (some would say there was no change). A few minutes later things only got worse when Simon went to kick a backpass only to give an excellent ehibition on how to “air shot”, the ball going under his foot and with the striker gambling running in behind again to find the empty net. This seemed to wake Hay up and on 60 minutes, Kev Jones found Josh Wiz who netted for his second and Hay’s fifth. Hay piled on the pressure and Fil Wiz made the substitutions: Russel Jones made way for Oli Cooke who came on to the left hand side whilst Joe mac dropped back to right back. Sam Powell made way in the middle still struggling with a calf injury and was replaced by Gary Keeble. The youngster Will Goodwin stepping up from the reserves came on for the luckless Kevin Jones. There were still more goals to come and after 80 minutes Josh Wiz took a woeful corner which was knocked straight back to him. Second time around , however he put the ball perfectly onto Johhny Daws head and the striker placed it beautifully passed the keeper. When Hay were awarded a penalty for a hand ball, there was a bit of a delay whilst the players decided who would take it, 2 players being on a hattrick. Josh Wiz in the end stepped up and after waiting for the ref to blow his whistle took a short run up and unlike him scuffed the ball straight to the path of the falling goalkeeper. A penalty best forgotten. On the final whistle it was left to Johnny Daw to connect to make it 0-7 on the day and another invaluable 3 points for Hay.

A very up and down performance from Hay was just like the pitch but 4 players stood out Joe Mac, Josh Wiz and Russell Jones with Gavin Williams showing why he was first on the team sheet for the whole of last season.

Man of the Match goes to Joe Mayglothling.
