The Saints won 3 – 5 at Llanidloes Town FC this afternoon.

Goal scorers were Jack Biggs, Rob Snedden, Ryan Davies, Steve Morgan and Rob McNamara.

The Gaffer kept the same formation and line up that won at Llandrindod two weeks ago, striker Rob McNamara was in the squad for the first time in several weeks after missing out through work.

The opening 20 minutes were a cagey affair with both teams having an equal share of the ball.

A Llani shot from distance had Saints keeper Steve Jones  on his toes but he saved well with his legs after the ball swerved late.

A big shout went up from our bench for a penalty when Ryan Davies was brought down from behind by Llani’s Warren Sherwood when in on goal but the referee waved played on, he said afterwards he didn’t see it!

In the 21st minute a quick counter attack saw Brendan Hackett, Matt James and Steve Morgan link up, the ball eventually found striker Ryan Davies in the box, he cut it back to top scorer Jack Biggs who netted from 12 yards out. 0-1

In the 23rd minute the home side could and probably should of had a penalty when one of their players was clipped in the area but again the referee waved play on.

In the 25th minute we had a couple of corners which the home side couldn’t clear, from the second corner a half cleared ball was whipped back in by Hackett, again the home centre half headed it away but the ball fell to Rob Snedden who volleyed it into the top corner from 20 yards out. 0-2

From the restart we won the ball back immediately and Ryan Davies was put through on goal, the pacey striker finished well from 16 yards out, his effort went under the diving Warwick in the Llani goal. 0-3.

Steve Morgan made it 0-4 in the 39th minute, another quick counter attack saw Morgan beat his marker and hit low shot which beat Warwick at the near post.

Ht 0-4.

We nearly scored in the first minute of the second half but striker Davies slipped when in on goal.

In the 49th minute the home side pulled a goal back, a corner from the left fell to a Llani player just two yards and he made no mistake from there. 1-4

Llanidloes saw a lot more of the ball in the second half as we sat back, Jones made a great save on the hour with his legs after a ball hadn’t been cleared from a corner.

Matt James was having a great game in the middle of the park winning tackle after tackle and then sending Hackett and Davies  away on the counter attack.

A sloppy tackle from the up until then impressive Steve Goodwin saw referee Dave Bywater award Llani a penalty which was duly dispatched with 10 minutes to go. 2-4

With the home side pushing for another goal Rob McNamara was put through on the left, Warwick came off his line quick but the tall striker bent his shot around him and into the back of the net for 2-5 with six minutes to go.

In the 91st minute a well taken free kick was headed in for a late consolation goal for Llanidloes.

FT 3 – 5.

A good win on the road, our first half performance was excellent, we were  counter attacking with pace and the Llani defence couldn’t cope with it.

The second half we sat back and let the home side come at us, saying that I never once felt we would lose the game, we were always in control.

There were a lot of good performances all over the pitch but my man of the match was Matt James who seems to be getting better by the week.

Team –

Steve Jones, Jordan Baker(c), Matt Croose, Steve Goodwin, Tom James, Matt James, Steve Morgan(Will Goodwin), Brendan Hackett, Jack Biggs, Rob Snedden(Stu Davies), Ryan Davies(Rob McNamara).
