RHOSGOCH 1 SAINTS 3.

Wisniewski(2), Cooke(1).

The Saints visited their local rivals on a wild windy day – the last sort of weather you want when playing at Rhosgoch. They put in a performance to ensure the 3 points and step ever closer to the league title for the second time in three seasons.

From the start Hay dominated, playing with the wind, forcing Vic Davies in the home goal in to numerous saves which kept his side in the game. Time after time he was in the right place at the right time to block the ball and prevent the Saints from taking the lead.

Pressure told in the end though and a good move involving Stu Davies and Kev Jones resulted in a chance for Josh Wisniewski who made no mistake from 12 yards. Ben Bevan was replaced after some 25 minutes with  a knee injury and it was his replacement Tom Wilkes who set up Wis for his second. A pinpoint cross was headed home in to the far corner.

More pressure was the order of the rest of the 1st half with Rhosgoch having the occasional break although to be fair not really testing Ian Jones in goal. The home side had a young side and were trying to play in the right way. Young Josh Watson looked a useful player and also being a willing worker all game.HT 0-2

With Rhos having the advantage of the strong wind in the 2nd half it was only expected that the would have more of the ball and therefore more pressure. The Saints were though managing to have their fair share of possession and were now able to keep the ball under control more. Owain Lloyd always looked dangerous when he had the ball and he was having to be carefully marked by Mike Havard and Russ Jones.

A third goal 15 minutes in to the half settled the Saints with Ollie Cooke being rewarded for his non stop work on the right. He showed real persistence, to first of all pick up a cross field pass and then beat his defender and goalkeeper, and then make sure that the ball finished in the back of the net. This goal proved to be vitally important as Rhos had pulled a goal back within minutes through Owain Lloyd when it semed there was a general lack of concentration at the back. The remainder of the game was played with the Saints creating further chances and the Rhos answering back with pressure of their own. The Saints ran out quite comfortable winners in the end though.FT 1-3.

It is always a good win at Rhosgoch and this was no exception as it ensured that as long as Gwernyfed, who had beaten St Harmon 6-0 on Saturday, did not win there remaining game by a rugby score at Penybont on Wednesday, that the Saints would be crowned champions.
