SAINTS 1 CLYDACH 2.

The Saints lost 1-2 against Clydach who scored the winning goal in the 88th minute.

It was a good workout for the players with both teams being evenly matched throughout the contest. Midfielder Tom Weaver gave the Saints the lead after striker Kevin Jones took a quick free kick out on the left, his cross was headed back across the keeper by Weaver who out jumped his marker to open the scoring. The Saints were the better side in the first half with the away keeper pulling off a good double save from Josh Wisniewski and Jones, The Saints keeper Stephen Price wasn’t really troubled early doors but showed what a good signing he could be with some quality distribution to his defence.

The second half saw the visitors come more into the game but again they never really tested Price early on, but with 20 to go veteran Nicky Francis scored a quality 25 yard free kick which gave Price no chance and made the score 1-1. The Saints pushed for the winner and were unlucky on a couple of occasions with Wisniewski going close from an acute angle and Steve Goodwin from long range, just as the game was looking like a draw Saints striker Kevin Jones playing in an unfamiliar left back role gave away a free kick, the ball was played into the box at pace and slipped out of Price’s grasp, the away striker tapped in from 2 yards to make it 1-2 and a win for the visitors.

Manager Chris Baynton was pleased with the workout and pleased we matched them physically, he was dissapointed with the result but felt there was plenty of positives to take from the game.
